A few weeks ago, the team met Safya, aka @blackmaroccan, at our office. It was an opportunity to shoot HER with the new collection and to exchange on her journey, her projects and her vision of womanhood.

After graduating from high school, Safya discovered communication by doing a “DUT” in Marketing and Sales Techniques. During her internship she went to the North of England.

Safya / @blackmaroccan: “I really enjoyed going to another country, to be on my own. My experience there allowed me to discover another culture, where everyone does what they want, dresses as they want, and can experiment with their style. In England, we don’t even look at my scarf. It was so refreshing”.

Following this internship, Safya took a two-year sabbatical. She then worked as an animator with kids and saleswoman at Galeries Lafayette before returning to university for a Master’s degree in Digital Communication.

“That’s when I really found myself, I liked the relational and creative side, the project management of this master’s degree.”

How did you start in influence ?

[clear]

Safya: “It came naturally, I was posting my outfits in photos and I liked to share them. I enjoyed posting on social media, creating looks and also showing that I wear my scarf and that I love fashion, the two can be linked. My account also grew with me, I also saw that second hand was a topic that my community liked so I started sharing tips. With the lockdown I took advantage of being at home to work on my creative side, started sewing and posted IGTV/Lookbook”.

Despite her attachment to Instagram (@blackmaroccan), mainly to keep a direct link with her community, Safya wanted to test a new format, she recently launched her Youtube channel called also Blackmaroccan. Since the first lockdown her new motto is “if I want to do something, I do it” no matter the final result, the important thing is to try and to challenge yourself.

Beside the influence she also works freelance, which allows her to mix freedom and creativity.

“In fact I live as if I were to die tomorrow : the important thing is to do something I like, live day by day, and let go because you can’t manage what’s going on”. This crisis allowed her to question herself, to help her let go, and at least to take advantage of the time she was given. “I try to let my creative side speak for itself, to take time to learn new things. »

You appear to be a very quiet, calm person. What is your secret ?

[clear]

“It’s true that people often tell me that I look serene, but I think that it comes from my character but especially from my spirituality. Meditation helps me to get rid of doubt. If something doesn’t work, it doesn’t matter, the important thing is to be proud to be yourself and to have tried”.

What was your childhood like ?

[clear]

“I come from a big family, two brothers and one sister. I had a happy childhood, I grew up in a family where we could express ourselves and experiment freely. My parents always pushed me to give the best of myself, so it gave me a discipline for which I am grateful. »

Which women inspire you ?

[clear]

“The women around me, like my mother, my aunts, my sister are a great source of inspiration. They are very enterprising, they go to the end of their project. For example, my sister who passed her last year of studies while she was pregnant and set up her architecture agency. She is a role model for me, she is determined and even inspires me in style and fashion”.

What is your vision of femininity ?

[clear]

“Feeling good, both inside and outside, I think that femininity is specific to each one”. More and more, we see several visions of femininity. For BlackMaroccan, it goes through a touch of blush, a liner that makes you feel good and also having fun with clothes.

“Even if I like oversize clothing and some of my clothes come from the man’s side, I feel hyper feminine once I wear my look. »
